Em Mainey – NeuroWild
Neurodiversity-affirming practice: What? Why? How? How? How?
Perth Hills Allied Health is proud to welcome you to our inaugural Professional Development Series.
Our first presenter is Em Mainey from NeuroWild. She will present to Speech Pathologists on ‘Neurodiversity-affirming practice: What? Why? How? How? How?’
This is a hybrid event. Em will present over Zoom but attendees must be in person, at our clinic (105 Champion Drive, Kelmscott).
About Em :
Em is a late-diagnosed Autistic speech pathologist with ADHD. She is also mum to three neurodivergent kids, cat-lover, coffee-drinker, illustrator, and the face behind the social media accounts, NeuroWild. Em is passionate about bringing neurodiversity-affirming practice into every speech pathology clinic, and changing the world for our neurodivergent kids.
Schedule for the Day
8:30am – 8:45am: Attendees arrive
9:00am – 10:30am: Em to present, including question time
10:30 – 11:15am: Morning tea networking
11:15am – 12:00pm: Brainstorming what we have learnt from Em and putting a plan in place for changes.
Cost: $100 (including morning tea – please advise of any allergies)

Developmental Language Disorder for Secondary School Teachers
DLD affects 7.5% of children – that means 2 children in every class of 30. Learn about how you can help these young people in your class.
This 2 hour workshop is for secondary school teachers who would like to learn more about Developmental Language Disorder
The workshop will cover:
- Typical Language Development in Teenage Years
- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) – what it is, what it looks like in a classroom and how we diagnose it
- DLD and its connection to literacy (and therefore every other subject)
- Supporting a child with DLD in a mainstream classroom
- Q & A Opportunities

This 2 hour workshop is for primary school teachers who would like to learn more about Developmental Language Disorder.
The workshop will cover:

- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) – what it is, what it looks like in a classroom and how we diagnose it
- DLD and its connection to literacy (and therefore every other subject)
- Supporting a child with DLD in a mainstream classroom
- Q & A Opportunities
There will be a brief break in the workshop at approximately 3 pm – afternoon tea will be provided.
